Military Sealift Command

MILITARY SEALIFT COMMAND

The Military Sealift Command is part of the United States Navy and is the organization responsible for the replenishment and military transport of Navy vessels. The Military Sealift Command is an important part of the Department of Defense and serves an important role in the United States Navy. The Military Sealift Command provides compensation and recovery options to employees injured while working for the organization offshore. If you have been injured in an accident while working for the Military Sealift Command, you may be entitled to compensation for your injuries.

The Military Sealift Command is comprised of five different programs: Combat Logistics Force, Special Mission, Prepositioning, Service Support, and Sealift. The bulk of the transport operations occur in the Sealift program, while much of the replenishment occurs through the Combat Logistics Force. The Combat Logistics Force was created after the Navy determined that it was cheaper for civilians to man the support vessels involved. The Sealift program provides transportation options for the Department of Defense through its transportation of vessels and related equipment. The remaining programs serve specific operations on behalf of the Navy.

Military Sealift Command is the end result of the evolution of nearly one hundred years of prior organizations. The Military Sealift Command provides a more centralized and organized organization that provides direct support to the Department of Defense and the United States Navy. Prior to this organization, many of the Naval support organizations were disorganized and spread throughout many different organizations. The Military Sealift Command combined all these organizations into one to provide a more structured approach to Naval functions and support.

MILITARY SEALIFT COMMAND RECOVERY

Employees and seaman who work in the Military Sealift Command are not necessarily members of the United States Navy, but are instead civilians who are subject to civilian laws. These workers are similar to any offshore workers and serve the role of seaman while on long missions. Therefore, the Military Sealift Command falls within other federal laws protecting maritime workers in the event of accidents and other incidents. If a worker is injured in an accident during their service in the Military Sealift Command, they will receive compensation for their injuries and related damages. An experienced maritime law attorney will be able to assist you in understanding the recovery options available to you as a worker within the Military Sealift Command.
